The Maine Diner Starred on Boston’s Chronicle TV Program Wednesday!
This year is off to a fabulous start for The Maine Diner! Our favorite local eatery was featured in a special segment on Boston’s popular television news magazine show “Chronicle" Wednesday, February 22 on WCVB Channel 5 at 7:30 p.m. Journalists in Boston made the Diner their top pick for a news feature called “A Tank Away” which highlights fantastic getaways for the Boston metro crowd that are within a tank of gas away from the city. If you came in for lunch on February 8 you may have had a front row seat to the filming taking place with the TV crew. Seasoned Chronicle correspondent Ted Reinstein filmed the episode live at the Maine Diner with owner Dick Henry and the staff. Henry sat down in a back booth with Ted over a cup of coffee to share the Diner’s history, lore, the family’s vision and legacy and the trademark Henry hospitality. For more than 28 years word of the Diner’s legendary food and stellar service has spread far and wide and caught the ear of the Chronicle’s producers. While they first filmed here at the Diner years ago, they came back for a “second helping” in 2012 and further delved into the Diner’s roadside appeal and fabulous home-cooked food. Reinstein explained the news feature helps those in the greater Boston area develop a meaningful and worthwhile destination for an affordable and fun day trip.
“On behalf of my family and employees we are are truly honored to be a part of this program. We have happily served many customers from Boston and beyond over the years. It is a testimony to everyone’s hard work they we have developed this wonderful reputation beyond the boundary of our own town,” Henry said. “I know my brother Myles would have been thrilled.”
Reinstein and his staff not only got a tour of the the inner workings of the famous Diner kitchen to see how everything was made, but they then finished up with a seat at the counter sampling the savory award-winning Seafood Chowder, Lobster Pie, and other fan favorites. Producer, cameraman and the host happily ate and had that telltale satisfied look on their faces after the last bite.
“The Maine Diner is so deserving…they are very authentic, the food is fabulous and their hospitality is genuine. I think those watching the program will find it is well worth the trip,” Reinstein said. He noted he plans to incorporate the Diner into a future upcoming project he is working on.
The coffee is hot, the seafood always fresh and we promise we will serve you up the greatest home-cooked hospitality and food we know how to make!

The Spirit of Myles Henry lives on at the Maine Diner
A year after is death, brother Dick and a dedicated staff stay committed to the Diner tradition!
Living in Maine we are tuned in to the transition of the seasons and the passage of time. We feel invigorated and alive with the first breath of air on a warm spring day; we know how to “make hay while the sun shines” in the short, hot interlude of our seaside summers; we delight in the glorious explosion of a colorful fall and know how to make ready for the cold season ahead; and we keep the home fires burning during the long bitter winters. In essence, we learn to adapt to change and to be resourceful. It is part of who we are.
